In 1979, the Marseille-born Emsellem family started their denim business with the brand Mc Lem. Sold away in the early 1990s, the company came back into the family for good in 1996 when the son, Laurent, decided to take up its leadership.
In the early 2000s, the denim market is divided between the historically leading brands with relatively low-priced jeans and the upmarket jeans brands that are mostly Italian. In between is a spot for the Kaporal 5 Jeans, a brand specially created and whose commercial strategy will be targeting young people under 30, with a budget range going from 90 to 120 euros.
Since then, the brand's rise has been impressive, and its marketing campaign have featured such renowned sportsmen as Didier Drogba and Frédéric Michalak.
Kaporal 5 Jeans are characterized by marked distressed and aged detailing, and innovating designs and types of fading. New tops (Kaporal 5 jackets, T-shirts, polo-shirts), Kaporal 5 skirts and bermuda shorts also add bulk to the brand's range.
